A second-year management student of IIM Calcutta at Joka has been arrested by Haridevpur police based on a rape complaint filed by a woman. The incident allegedly took place inside the boys’ hostel. According to the complaint, the woman was called for a counselling session and later taken to the hostel on the pretext of some other work. She stated that she was not asked to sign the visitors' register and was offered pizza and water, after which she lost consciousness.
The survivor alleged that while in a disoriented state, she was physically assaulted and raped. She also claimed that she was beaten when she resisted. Upon regaining consciousness, she found herself lying inside the hostel. She first approached Thakurpukur police station and was then directed to Haridevpur police station, where the FIR was registered on Friday.
Police have collected samples from the scene and spoken to IIM Calcutta authorities as part of the investigation. Based on the woman’s statement and initial findings, the accused student has been taken into custody. Further investigation is underway.
